MU Extension launches virtual program to help Missouri families navigate the finances of care giving

STE. GENEVIEVE – Preparing for care giving often brings difficult and confusing decisions, especially when it comes to money. To help older adults and their families navigate these challenges, University of Missouri Extension is launching The Finances of Caregiving Program, a four-session virtual class designed to help participants understand key financial issues and plan ahead before care becomes an urgent necessity.

The program will meet online via Zoom for four consecutive Mondays, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, beginning July 27, 2026.

Co-taught by two trained MU Extension Health and Human Sciences Field Specialists, the course is designed for older Missourians and their current or potential care partners (e.g., parents and their adult child; spouses). Each class is limited to 12 older adults and their caregivers.

The 60-minute weekly sessions will cover the following critical topics:

  • Session 1: Financial Caregiving and Care Conversations
  • Session 2: Care Costs and Assistance Programs
  • Session 3: Taking Stock and Protecting the Caregiver
  • Session 4: The Essentials – Forms and People
