About Our New Assistant Superintendent

Dr. John Boyd Jr. has been named assistant superintendent for Ste. Genevieve County R-II, bringing with him 17 years of experience in public education and a proven record of instructional leadership. After beginning his career in 2009 at North St. Francois County R-I School District as a middle school social studies teacher, department leader and coach, Dr. Boyd joined SG R-II in 2011 as a high school social studies teacher and freshman class sponsor. He spent seven years in the classroom before serving three years as assistant principal and the past five years as principal of Ste. Genevieve High School.

Dr. Boyd believes that serving students, staff and the community requires hard work, intentional leadership and a commitment to continuous improvement. His educational philosophy is reflected in one of his favorite quotes by Steve Prefontaine: “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.” He believes that when educators lead with integrity and maintain high expectations, they create an environment where both students and staff can thrive.

Throughout his career, Dr. Boyd has served on numerous district and professional committees, including the district’s Calendar, Facilities, Insurance and Professional Development committees; and the High School Principal’s Leadership Committee and High School Principal’s Student Advisory Committee. Dr. Boyd also served as chair of the A+ Advisory Committee, treasurer of the Southeast Region of the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals (MOASSP) and a principal mentor.

As an alumnus of the SG R-II Track and Cross Country programs, Dr. Boyd took the opportunity to coach both track and cross country at SGHS, helping lead multiple MSHSAA state championship teams.

Among the accomplishments he is most proud of are serving the faculty and students of Ste. Genevieve High School while continuing the school’s tradition of excellence through high expectations and student success. He also helped advance college and career readiness through initiatives such as Career Exploration, the creation of the EMT program, the expansion of Market Value Assets and the continued growth of the SGHS College & Career Fair, while leading efforts that resulted in Government End-of-Course assessment scores consistently exceeding the state average. Dr. Boyd has also presented at both the MoASSP and National Association of Secondary School Principals conferences, sharing the innovative work taking place at SGHS.

Dr. Boyd has been recognized throughout his career for his leadership and service, including being named the 2022 MoASSP Southeast Regional High School Principal of the Year, 2023 Jim L. King Missouri High School Principal of the Year, 2024 Ste. Genevieve County R-II Supervisor of the Year and 2024 Missouri Association of Student Councils Southeast Regional Principal of the Year. He also earned the 2024 Honorary Chapter FFA Degree, 2025 MoASSP/Walsworth Southeast Regional Consummate Professional Award and 2026 Administrators Advancing Agricultural Education Award. He has served as the 2025 MoASSP president-elect, a member of the Missouri Commissioner of Education’s Principal Advisory Council and a MoASSP & NASSP Rural Leaders Network co-facilitator and principal mentor.

Dr. Boyd earned his bachelor’s degree in History from Lindenwood University. He earned the following degrees from Missouri Baptist University: a master’s degree in Educational Administration, a specialist degree in Educational Administration, and a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership.

Dr. Boyd and his wife, Sierra, have been married for 9 years. Sierra has also served as an SG R-II track and cross country coach for the past several years. Together, they have two children: five-year-old JB, and 3-year-old Emery.

About Our New Ste. Genevieve High School Principal

Dr. Ally Klein joins SGHS as the new principal, bringing with her 12 years of experience in public education and a lifelong connection to the Ste. Genevieve County R-II School District. A proud 2009 SGHS graduate, Dr. Klein began her career as a junior high and high school social studies teacher at Valley R-IV School District before spending the past nine years at North St. Francois County R-I School District, where she served as a high school social studies and English teacher, dual credit instructor through Missouri Baptist University, assistant volleyball coach, esports coach and Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society advisor and founder, before being promoted to assistant principal in 2023.

At the core of her leadership is a strong belief in maintaining a positive school culture grounded in relationships, ongoing excellence and student voice. Dr. Klein believes meaningful relationships are the foundation of successful schools and developing great people. She is committed to helping both students and educators reach their fullest potential by fostering an environment where everyone is encouraged, challenged and supported. Her educational philosophy is reflected in one of her favorite quotes by Anthony J. D’Angelo: “Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.”

Throughout her career, Dr. Klein has served on numerous leadership committees, including Professional Development, Leadership, Curriculum and CSIP committees, while also serving as a social studies department chair and Education First group leader. She is deeply passionate about developing teachers. She has mentored new educators, facilitated professional learning communities, supported curriculum development, participated in Network for Educator Effectiveness consensus scoring and led professional learning initiatives designed to strengthen instruction and improve student outcomes. She believes one of a principal’s greatest responsibilities is investing in teachers, recognizing that when educators continue to learn and improve, students ultimately benefit.

Known for her innovative approach to leadership, Dr. Klein designed and implemented numerous  sustainable programs and technology systems to improve the day-to-day efficiency of school operations. Developing automations and streamlining existing processes, she has helped simplify workflows, improve communication, reduce repetitive tasks and make the work of teachers and staff more efficient, allowing them to spend more time focused on students.

Among the accomplishments she is most proud of are establishing a Principal’s Advisory Group to amplify student voice and launching the Raider Shield intervention initiative inspired by SGHS’ DragonFIRE, which contributed to a 54% reduction in failing grades after the first semester, a 45% reduction in failing grades after second semester, and an 8% increase in End-of-Course assessment scores across all four tested content areas. She also established a Climate and Culture Committee to strengthen collaboration and school connectedness, reflecting her belief that lasting improvement comes from building systems that empower both students and staff.

Dr. Klein earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in Secondary Social Studies from the University of Missouri–St. Louis. From Missouri Baptist University, she earned: a Master of Science in Education in Curriculum and Instruction, a Master of Science in Educational Administration, and a Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction. Dr. Klein earned her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from William Woods University. She holds certifications in grades 5-12 social studies and English, K-12 mild/moderate special education and K-12 school leadership.

Originally from Ste. Genevieve, Dr. Klein is excited to return home to serve the community that shaped her. She is the daughter of Ron and Pam (Fallert) Klein, both lifelong Ste. Genevieve residents and 1977 graduates of SGHS. Her sister, Taylor (Klein) Worley, is also an SGHS alumna. “The traditions, pride, and sense of community here helped shape who I am as a person and educator,” Dr. Klein says. “And it is incredibly meaningful to return in this role and serve a school I care so deeply about.”

Dr. Klein and her husband, Kyle, have been married for eight years. While they currently reside in Festus, they are looking forward to making Ste. Genevieve home once again. Together, they enjoy traveling and spending time with their two Australian Shepherds.
