IML Announces the REAL Housing Act

SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Municipal League (IML) has introduced the Reducing Expenses and Advancing Local (REAL) Housing Act. This proposal is designed to lower housing costs, provide property tax relief and maintain decision making at the local level.

“At a time when housing affordability is a top concern for Illinois residents, this proposal focuses on what actually works, with results-driven solutions,” said IML Chief Executive Officer Brad Cole. “Rather than imposing broad preemptions on municipal zoning authority, the REAL Housing Act removes barriers that delay development and increase costs, allowing communities to expand housing opportunities in ways that directly benefit residents and reflect local needs, doing so with the state’s partnership.”
