STE. GENEVIEVE – There were four “swearing ins” at Thursday’s meeting of the Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen, but no new faces. The four incumbent aldermen ran unopposed in the April 7th municipal election.
Alderman Joe Steiger conducted the business of the meeting in the absence of Mayor Keim.
Steiger read a proclamation for Arbor Day and presented a Mayoral Merit Award to the Master Gardeners and Downtown Ste. Genevieve.

City Clerk Pam Meyer was re-appointed to another term.
In his report to the board, City Administrator David Bova announced that water and sewer rates are scheduled for a four percent increase this year. He said the rates changes were adopted by the board in 2025 after an extensive study of the city’s water and sewer system. A public hearing on the rate hike is scheduled for the May 28th Board of Aldermen meeting.
Three persons spoke in opposition to the city’s agreement with ICE regarding the enforcement of immigration laws. One person defended the police department’s role.
The consent agenda items were all approved. They include the following in addition to the treasurer’s report, and board meeting minutes which usually appear on the consent agenda:
Resolution 2026-30 for a property maintenance agreement with Jeremy Rhinehart to maintain flood buyout property
Resolution 2026-31 to renew the city’s employee health insurance plan for 2026-2027.
A street closure request from Brix Urban Winery Strolling Back In Time event May 16th. Second Street will be closed from Merchant to Market from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
There was one item of Old Business:
Bill No. 4718 to contract with Beussink, Hey, Roe and Stroder LLC certified public accountants was approved 8-0.
There were the following items under new business:
The appointment of city clerk.
Resolution 2026-32 appointing Robert Sullivan to the Ste. Genevieve Housing Authority Board was passed.
Bill No. 4719 to establish an intergovernmental agreement between Ste. Genevieve City and Ste. Genevieve County to administer the county’s new tourism tax was given first round approval on a voice vote.
Bill No. 4720 for a stormwater drainage easement between the city and Progress Pointe Land Strategy LLC was given first round approval on a voice vote.
