Mississippi Valley Art Guild announces May events

CHESTER – The Mississippi Valley Art Guild has released its May calendar of events.

The MVAG has lots of classes lined up for May.  For kids, on May 2, 1-3 p.m., for ages 6+, there will be a Birdhouse Party.  Join our wonderful Megan Schoenherr to create your own birdhouse. 

On May 9, 1-3pm, for ages 8+, the guild is hosting a Creative Clay class.  Use Polymer clay to create dragon eyes, penguins, owls, or any other creature you can imagine.

The first adult class for May is Watercolor with Barb Schrieber.  Barb is well known for her beautiful watercolor art.  On May 7, at 6 p.m., you will learn many different techniques to paint bleeding hearts on a beautiful background.  Cost is $100 for guests and $90 for members. 

You must be registered by April 30.

On May 8, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the guild is trying something new, A Papercrafting Day. 

People can bring projects from home and can work on scrapbooking, card making, journaling. 

The guild has plenty of scrapbook paper, cardstock, along with a die cutting machine and dies, rubber stamps and paper punches to use.  A$10 cost if you’re starting from scratch.  No cost if you bring your own supplies.

On May 12, 1-3 p.m. and again 6-8 p.m., is our second Tangle and Twist class.  Becky Browning will teach her twisted version of Zentangle.  $15 for guests. $13.50 for members.  It’s open to teens and adults.  All supplies included.

On May 15, the Chester Library will host the movie The Monuments of Men at 6:30 p.m..  It’s a film based on a true story of a WWII platoon tasked with rescuing art stolen by Nazis.  You may bring a drink in a lidded cup, and the library will provide the popcorn.  Contact the Chester Public library to register.

On May 19, 21, 26, and 28, 5:30-8 p.m., Jeanne Phillips will host her Stained Glass Creations. 

This is open to beginners and seasoned artists.  Jeanne will teach you how to cut glass and solder lead to create a beautiful piece of stained glass.  $50 for guests.  $45 for members.  All supplies are included. 

On May 29 at 5 p.m., the guild will host its second Adult Pizza & Paint Party.  Come create and enjoy some pizza and drinks.  Cost is $30 for guests and $27 for members.  Price includes an art piece (yet to be determined) to create and take home along with the pizza and drinks.

On May 30, 1-3 p.m., the guild is hosting an Adult Open Art Studio.  People can bring a project from home to work on, or start fresh using our supplies.  No cost.

Also, on May 30, Haisley Mae’s Pop-Up Bakery will be at the guild from 1-4.  Stop in and check out her delicious pastries.

Keep an eye out for our June schedule.  We will begin the summer with Coffee, Craft & Chat every Wednesday, 9am -noon. 

The guild is open every Saturday, 1-4pm, and during class events.  The guild will be closed on Saturday, May 23, for Memorial Day weekend.
