Randolph County voters okay school facilities sales tax change

CHESTER — Voters in Randolph County said yes to a change in the way money from the school facilities sales tax is used.

The question on the ballot stated: :In addition to school facility purposes, shall Randolph

County school districts be authorized to use revenues from the tax commonly referred to as the school facilities sales tax that is currently imposed in the County of Randolph, Illinois,

at a rate of 1% for school resources officers and mental health professionals?”

The voters approved the change 2,925 yes to 1,022 no or 70 percent to 24 percent.

In the Republican Primary incumbent Randolph County Sheriff Jarrod Peters defeated his challenger Christopher Seders 2,775 to 347 or 66 percent eight percent. There were no candidates for sheriff in the Democratic Primary.
