STE. GENEVIEVE — The Ste. Genevieve Fire District has released the following report on a structure fire Thursday afternoon in the city fo Ste. Genevieve.
At approximately 2:45 PM the Ste. Genevieve Fire District along with the Ste. Genevieve County Fire District stations 1 & 8 were paged to a first alarm structure in the 300 block of Roberts in the City of Ste. Genevieve.
Officers from the Ste. Genevieve Police Department arrived first and reported smoke coming from the attic. The first fire unit arrived on scene in less than seven minutes from time of initial dispatch to find the actual fire in the 400 block of Roberts Street.
There was heavy smoke from the eaves of the house. An aggressive interior attack was made by a SGFPD crew and the fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes. Assistance arrived from the county district and the building was ventilated and overhaul was done looking for any additional hidden fire. Fire crews were on the scene for just over an hour.
The fire was contained to one room of the house. One room received heavy fire damage and the rest of the house received smoke and some water damage.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time but believed to be an electrical problem.
The Ste. Genevieve Fire District was assisted on the call by the Ste. Genevieve County Fire Protection District stations 1 & 8, the Ste Genevieve County Ambulance District and the City of Ste. Genevieve Police Department.
This was one of five calls answered by the Ste. Genevieve Fire District in 24 hours. Other calls included investigate an odor, EMS assist, Fire Alarm Sounding and a Hazardous Materials leaking response.
