Joseph Lindell Johnson

Joseph Lindell Johnson of Chester, Illinois, passed away at the age of 79 at 9:45 a.m., Saturday, January 31, 2026 at his residence.

He was born December 20, 1946 in Murphysboro to the late Joseph A. and Opal (nee Gill) Johnson.

Joseph married Marla Yazman February 22, 1969 in Redwood City, California and celebrated 57 years of marriage; she survives, in Chester, Ill.

He is also survived by four sons: Steven Johnson of Orlando, Fla., David Johnson Murphysboro, Ill.,

Shaun (Nanette) Johnson of Ellis Grove, Ill., and Jeremy (Carrie) Johnson of Chester, Ill.; siblings: 

Ronald (Donna) Johnson of Murphysboro, Ill., Daniel (Debbie) Johnson of Wine Hill, Ill., Phyllis (Pat) Maloney Peoria, Ill. and Rita (Gary) Followell Houston, Tex.; eight grandchildren: Lucas Johnson, Logan Johnson, Emily Johnson, Jessalyn (Jon) Monroe, Wyatt Johnson, Danielle (Jorge) Gallegos, Logan Hormann and Cole Johnson; three great grandchildren: Gracie, Jackson and Luke Monroe and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was also preceded in death by a his in-laws: Edward and LaVerna Yazman; a brother:Chester Wayne Johnson and a daughter-in-law; Stephanie Knight

He worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad for 38 years until his retirement.

Joseph enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy.

It was Joseph’s wish to be cremated with no services.
