CHESTER – The Chester Fire Department was called out twice on Sunday in frigid temperatures, that were around zero degrees, if not below zero.
Firefighters were paged to 2711 State Street in Chester at 6:36 a.m. Sunday for a structure fire. Chester Police were first on scene and reported a fully involved detacted garage fire threatening to catch the house on fire.

Ellis Grove and Steeleville Fire were called for mutual aid.
First arriving fire units were able to knock the garage fire down before it reached the house. The house received minor damage and the garage was a total loss.
Fire is under investigation but believed to have started by a space heater.
This fire was a challenge because of cold weather and the snow storm.
Once again Chester Fire would like to thank the mutual aid departments and Chester Police Department.
That evening, about 9 p.m., the department was called out to a vehicle fire at 1215 Swanwick Street.

First fire unit on scene found a car with the engine compartment on fire.
The fire was extinguished but the car sustained major damage.
The cause of the fire is under investigation
