CHESTER – Chester Fire was dispatched to 1307 Jefferson Street at 9:27 p.m. on a recent evening by a report of a structure fire which was discovered by the Chester Police Department.

Police also advised of several small explosions and one bigger one which was the gas line on side of the house.
First arriving unit found the back and side of house on fire. Also the ruptured gas line was on fire.
Chester Gas Dept was dispatched and assisted firefighters in turning off the gas line.
Automatic mutual aid was received from the Ellis Grove and Steeleville Fire Departments.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, however, it is believed to have spread from an earlier fire in a fire pit located behind the house.
Chester Fire was back in service at 12:58 a.m.
