Roger L. Hanebutt

Roger L. Hanebutt, 78, of Red Bud, Illinois, passed away at 11:40 am, Thursday, January 8, 2026, at John Cochran V.A. Medical Center, St. Louis, Missouri. 

 

He was born to the late Erwin and Nelda A. (nee Koester) Hanebutt on May 3, 1947, in Red Bud, Illinois.

 

Roger married Linda A. Vessely on January 4, 1969, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Evansville, Illinois; she preceded him in death on October 21, 2015.

 

Roger then married Peggy (nee Deterding) Crafton on November 12, 2016, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Bud, Illinois; she survives.

 

Roger owned and operated Hanebutt Builders, a family business that he took over from his father, in Red Bud, Illinois.

 

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Bud, Illinois, and held various offices. Roger was also a member of the Red Bud Lions Club and was currently serving as President.

 

Roger was an avid golfer and was a member of the North County Country Club in Red Bud for many years. He could frequently be found on the course or in the clubhouse, spending time with friends.

 

Roger proudly served his country as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #6632 in Red Bud, serving as commander from 1985-86. He was also a member of American Legion Post #1172 in Evansville.
