ST. MARY — Through the efforts of our mayor and the Delta Regional Authority (DRA) St. Mary has received a grant of $509,000 and has received a notice to proceed.
Mayor Bequette began working on this Sept 24 and we were granted it Sept. 15. The grant comes from DRA, based in Memphis, TN and services 250 counties out of 7 states. The city was awarded $500,000 dollars with an additional $9000 dollars for administrative fees to be paid to SEMO Regional Planning Commission (RPC)which will help us administrate and provide us with financial oversight of the various projects. The DRA pays the RPC which will help us with bills, close out pertinent documentation assist with wage determinations, and facilitate preconstructions meetings with our engineering firm.
The $500,000 is to be spent on repairs and stabilization of out wastewater treatment facility which is in dire need of repair. Our system is one of two prototypes designed in the 1980’s. The sister plant was in Silex MO and was decommissioned 10 years ago.
The grant will address lift station conversion to gravity flow systems and biologic ecofriendly treatment solutions. Other prohe ts are slated as well.
Our engineering consultant Michael Montgomery from Heartland Engineering is working closely with us to convert our system to something that should be longer lasting and in alignment with more proven methods of wastewater management.
Look for more announcements in the future for other projects Mayor Bequette.
