PERRYVILLE – Perryville High School will undergo classroom shifts over winter break that will move select classes back into the PHS building and allow for the removal of some temporary classroom structures.

The PHS band, choir, and science departments will return to their former classrooms in the PHS building to begin the spring term on Monday, Jan. 5. This move will allow crews from Flex TC to remove the three temporary buildings on the bus parking lot by Pirate Stadium as well as the west wing of the temporary Learning Expo across from PHS.
“We have been thankful to have the temporary structures to house high school classes this fall, but the environments have been particularly challenging for band, chorus, and science instruction,” said District 32 Superintendent Dr. Fara Jones. “This transition will return these classes to more comfortable, conducive learning environments and will reduce the District’s rent obligations on temporary facilities.”
Although a majority of the PHS building remains uninhabitable, District 32 architects determined the band, choir, and science areas would be safe to use following thorough remediation. Contractors have removed or replaced moisture-compromised materials in these spaces, such as ceiling tiles, carpet, and sheetrock. These areas have been cleaned and passed air quality testing, city inspection, and fire inspection to prepare for occupancy. The construction team also built internal barriers to keep students and staff from entering areas within the building that remain off limits.
Crews have already begun moving classroom furniture and equipment, and the full transition will be completed over winter break.
