Bloomsdale Elementary holds 1st & 3rd grade holiday concerts

STE. GENEVIEVE –  Bloomsdale Elementary students shared seasonal music and storytelling during first- and third-grade holiday concerts Thursday, Dec. 11, at the Performing Arts Center. The concerts were led by music teacher Dillon Friedmeyer and highlighted student musicianship, confidence and creativity.

The first-grade concert took place at 6 p.m. and featured a selection of well-known holiday favorites. Students performed “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth,” “Jingle Bells,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” “Nuttin’ for Christmas” and “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.”

At 7 p.m., third-grade students presented “The Greatest Snowgirl,” a holiday musical for young voices by Teresa Jennings and Karl Hitzemann. Musical selections included “Every Hundred Years,” “Pick Me, Pick Me,” “Snowgirl, Why Are You Here?,” “Jolly Old Words to Live By” and “The Greatest Season.”

The musical tells the story of a rare year when Santa Claus takes Christmas off and must find a worthy substitute to handle Christmas Eve duties. As Santa reviews applications from a group of unusual candidates, one quiet and underestimated contender stands out. Despite being dismissed by others, she responds with kindness rather than criticism. Moved by her character and compassion, Santa ultimately chooses her for the honor.

Through these performances, Bloomsdale Elementary students demonstrated not only their musical growth but also the joy and teamwork that come from learning and performing together. The Bloomsdale Elementary music program extends its thanks to families and community members for their continued support and wishes everyone a holiday season filled with cheer, goodwill and time together.
