HILLSBORO – Jefferson County Sheriff Dave Marshak announces an arrest and charges in a shooting investigation involving a pair of semi-truck drivers.
46-year-old Michel Quintana-Betancourt of Miami, Florida, is charged with one count each of Assault 1st degree and unlawful use of a weapon, as well as two counts of armed criminal action for allegedly shooting another man in traffic.

According to a sheriff’s office news release, the incident was reported at 8:03 a.m. Monday. The release stated the Jefferson County 911 Dispatch received an emergency call from the shooting victim, reporting the crime. Deputies and detectives arrived at the scene minutes later, requested EMS for the victim, and detained Quintana-Betancourt without incident.
After an investigation, detectives stated the investigation shows that Quintana-Betancourt fired an AR-15 style firearm from the cab of his truck at the victim’s truck while the two vehicles were traveling northbound on Interstate 55 between Pevely and Barnhart.
The victim was struck once and was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Quintana-Betancourt is being held at the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
