Rev. John Gagnepain C.M., 90, of Perryville, Missouri entered into eternal rest on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at St. Mary’s of The Barrens Apostle of Charity Residence in Perryville.
He was born September 2, 1935 in Perryville, MO to Joseph “Cy” Wallace and Augusta “Gussie” (Pouyer) Gagnepain.
Father John Gapnepain was a Roman Catholic Priest and a member of the Congregation of the Mission. He professed his vows on May 31, 1955 and was ordained on June 10, 1962 at St. Mary’s of the Barrens in Perryville. Father John Gapnepain taught and was a principal at various seminary high schools. He served as Provincial of the Midwest Province for nine years. Lastly he was a spiritual director for the Springfield-Cape Diocese.
Survivors include his sister, Lucy Brenner of Morrison, MO; sister-in-law, Pat Favier of Perryville, MO; his fellow Vincentian Priests and Brothers, along with the staff at St. Mary’s of the Barrens that cared for him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joseph and Gene Favier.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at the Church of the Assumption at St. Mary’s of the Barrens in Perryville and a Virgil Service will held at 7:00 pm.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 am Thursday, November 20, 2025 at the Church of the Assumption at St.Mary’s of the Barrens in Perryville with Rev. Joseph Williams C.M., Provincial officiating followed by Right of Committal in the Vincentian Community Cemetery in Perryville.
Memorial contributions may be given to Congregation of the Mission.
