Perry County announces new tourism tax collection requirement for lodging providers

PERRY COUNTY – Perry County officials are notifying all lodging establishments of an important update regarding tourism tax collection. As a result of Missouri House Bill 199, signed into law on August 28, 2025, all lodging facilities within Perry County will be required to collect and remit a six percent tourism tax beginning December 1, 2025.

This requirement applies to a broad range of lodging providers, including:

  • Hotels and motels
  • Campground cabins
  • Short-term rentals, including those listed on Airbnb, VRBO, and similar platforms as well as those not listed on any platform.

Under the new law, lodging providers must add the six percent tourism tax to all guest lodging charges starting on the effective date. Collected taxes are to be remitted monthly to the Perry County Treasurer’s Office using the county’s designated submission form.

Forms will be provided for known lodging operators and will also be available online at www.perrycountymo.us. We ask that if you are a short-term rental operator that you adhere to the new statute even if you do not receive a letter requesting your remittance.

The funds generated through the tourism tax will be used to support and expand tourism projects and initiatives throughout Perry County, enhancing visitors’ experiences and helping to attract additional guests to the region. This investment is expected to positively impact the local economy and benefit lodging providers and businesses countywide.

“We value the important role lodging establishments play in welcoming visitors to Perry County,” said Trish Erzfeld, Director of Heritage Tourism. “Whereas this additional tax will strengthen our tourism efforts and help us continue to grow as a premier destination, it also makes the tax fair for all those with lodging establishments in Perry County. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and partnership as we implement this change.”

Lodging operators are encouraged to review booking systems, point-of-sale software, and online listings to ensure the tourism tax can be properly applied beginning December 1. Perry County is exploring options to streamline the monthly tax submission process and will share updates as they become available. Providers who have questions or need assistance may contact:
