Ste. Genevieve hosts October 4th Friday Art Walk

STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve hosts it’s downtown 4th Friday Art Walk October 24, with a range of activities from special to spooky.

The opening of the Sainte Genevieve Art Guild’s Promenade des Arts event on the courthouse square will be a highlight of the evening. The special exhibit honors the legacy of the Ste. Genevieve Art Colony, featuring three local artists, from three generations of the same family.

Nine works by Sister Cassiana Marie, a member of the original 1930s summer colony, will be shown publicly for the first time, along with information about her fascinating personal history.

The Guild show also includes work by her nephew and Colony participant Ste. Genevieve native Matthew E. Ziegler, with paintings and a large metal sculpture that have not been shown in town before. Previously unshown paintings by his niece, the late Dolly Dufour Surkamp, will be exhibited along with a dozen of her delightful, impressive handcrafted dolls.

Nearby Silver Sycamore Gallery says it will showcase “new, very affordable gift items to jump-start your Christmas shopping, plus pleasant conversation and complimentary fine wine, hors d’oeuvres, and interesting art work throughout the gallery.”

E•KLeK•TiX on North Main gets into the Halloween spirit with a display of some 15 spooky-themed original paintings by J Rissover and a 10 percent discount on all items purchased by customers in costume. There’ll also be free refreshments.

Enjoy free live music by jazz pianist Gabe Maichel across the street at Music Art Love. The gallery’s featured artists will be Dr. Piotr Kulikowski and Junie Ewing.

In the same neighborhood Rust and Only Child Originals will feature work by Sam Conlon and other local artisans. Two Rivers Gallery, home to art by Brian Haynes, is also expected to be open

The 6-9 p.m. Art Walk is open to everyone; most activities are free.
