A funeral will be held Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025 for 86-year-old Oma A. Phelps of Chester, Illinois, who passed away at 2:34 p.m., Saturday, September 20, 2025, at her residence.
She was born January 17, 2025 in Chester to Jesse and Effie (nee Parker) Nance, who both preceded her in death.
She married David L. Phelps September 16, 1967, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Chester. He preceded her in death June 22, 2012.
She is survived by three sons: Thomas (Cindy) Frazer, Jr. of Red Bud, Ill., Brett Frazer of Chester and Todd (Kimberly) Frazer of Perryville, Mo.; seven grandchildren: Amy Bateman, Crystal (Jay) Heet, Aaron (Calli) Frazer, Justin Frazer (Fiancée Melissa Johnson), Amber Frazer, Jeffrey (Lauren) Frazer, and Makaela Frazer; two step grandchildren: Alana Greatting and Bradden Greatting; many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter: Laurie Leiann Bateman; a grandson: Matthew Bateman, four brothers: Roy Cluster, Earl Nance, Forrest Nance, and Russell Nance, and four sisters: Lilah Morgan, Esther Hartman, Sharon Owen, and Omega Reeder.
Oma had worked at American Device in Steeleville, Illinois for many years.
She was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church in Rockwood, Illinois.
Her hobbies included sewing and quilting.
She dedicated her time to volunteering at the American Legion and V.F.W in Chester.
Oma’s greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Saturday, October 4 and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2025 at the Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester, Illinois.
A memorial service for 86-year-old Oma A. Phelps of Chester, Illinois, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 5, 2025 at the Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester, Illinois. The Rev. Tom Klausing will officiate.
Inturnment will be the Evergreen Cemetery, Chester, Illinois.
Memorials may be made to the Pleasant Ridge Church in Rockwood, Illinois.
