A funeral will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025 for 87-year-old Orville R. Hartman of Chester, Illinois, who passed away at 2 a.m, Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at his residence.
He was born May 9, 1938 in Bremen, Illinois to Ervin and Hilda (nee Haberman) Hartman.
Orville married Betty Walker on May 9, 1964 at St. John Lutheran Church in Chester; she survives in Chester.
He is also survived by two children: Nancy (Don) Straight of Chester, IL and Brenda Rowland of Murphysboro, IL; a sister: Darlene Asbury of Steeleville, IL; four grandchildren: Lindsay Rowland, Brandon (Brandi) Straight, Brooke Straight and Amanda Rowland; two great grandchildren: Brayden and Bryant Straight; a sister-in-law: Mary (Lee) Smith Mt. Vernon, IL; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was also preceded in death by: a son-in-law: Bruce Rowland and a brother-in-law: Bob Asbury
He retired from Chester Mental Health Center and worked at Singer for many years before that.
Orville was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Chester.
He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, hunting, bowling and dancing.
Orville also enjoyed gardening and watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball.
He was a United States Army Veteran.
A funeral for 87-year-old Orville R. Hartman of Chester, Illinois, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025 at St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, Illinois. Officiating: Rev. Timothy Sims
Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Chester, Illinois.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2025 at the Pechacek Funeral Homes in Chester, Illinois and 10-11 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025 at St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, Illinois.
