Nancy Jean Bierk Moore

Nancy Jean Bierk Moore, 95, of Perryville, moved on from this Earthly life early Tuesday morning, September 16, 2025. Nancy was born December 31, 1929 in Silver Lake, Missouri to Chalmer David (John) and Cozy Cashion Bierk. Nancy was married to (James) Roger Moore in May of 1949, her husband of 54 years, until his death in 2003.

Nancy is survived by her three younger brothers; Dr. John Cashion Bierk, of Cape Girardeau, Charles David (the late JoAnn) Bierk of Perryville and Stephen Michael (Glenda) Bierk of Silver Lake, Missouri – and was preceded in death by her younger sister, Cozy Bierk (Jack) Fiala.

Nancy and Roger had four sons. Mark C. (Candie) Moore now lives in Black Mt., North Carolina, Kim R. (June) Moore resides in Jackson, Missouri, Chris D. (Julie) Moore of Cape Girardeau, Missouri and Jeff M. Moore of Perryville, Missouri. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Abby (Tommy) Petzoldt, Hannah (Brian) Lottes, Nathan (Rachel) Moore, Megan (Ryan) Littlepage, Jennifer Moore and Jessica (Michael) Weiler. Nancy was always delighted to be called “GG” by fifteen wonderful great grandchildren.

Nancy graduated from Perryville High School in 1947, and earned a teaching certificate from Southeast Missouri Teacher’s College before teaching at several one-room schools in Perry County, including the Baudendistel and Willhelm schools.

The Moore family lived in Kirkwood, Missouri from 1954-1966, when they returned to Perryville, where Nancy resided until her death. During those years she worked as a pharmacy secretary for Perryville Prescription Center and later for Healthcare Pharmacy until she retired at the age of 90.

Nancy and Roger were charter members of the Perry County Historical Society (PCHS). While at PCHS, Nancy spearheaded creation of the Perry County Museum, in the Perryville City Park. As Museum Project Director, she oversaw the three-year renovation project and collected many of the Perry County historical artifacts on exhibit there. The Museum opened in May of 1990. The rnilitary-oriented items in the museum served as the core collection when the new Perry County Military Museum was established in 2011, which Nancy also helped to develop.

She was the Grand Marshall of the Perryville Homecoming Parade in 2012 and was selected as a distinguished alumnus that year. Nancy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Perryville and served on the Senior Citizens Tax Commission. She also volunteered with The Humane Society, Perryville High School Alumni Association and other civic groups.

Nancy was fond of poetry and literature and loved to sing. It was not uncommon to hear her belting out a rendition of some hit song from a Hollywood musical or a popular tune from her younger days, and, she always enjoyed singing Christmas Carols with the family. But, Nancy may best be remembered for her love of gardening and her yard on Jackson Street; an organic urban jungle blooming from earliest spring to late fall with Missouri wildflowers, multi-colored iris and lilies, redwood and dogwood trees, coneflowers, columbine, butterfly weed, Indian paintbrush, tulips, peonies, azalea and Nandina bushes, hydrangeas; more varieties than can be named… since she will no longer be here to tell us what they are.

Nancy Jean Bierk Moore was and is loved and will be missed.

A service commemorating Nancy’s remarkable life will take place on January 3, 2026 in the First Presbyterian Church of Perryville at 6 East Ste. Marie’s Street. Visitation will be from 9-11:00 a.m., with luncheon and Life Celebration immediately following.

Gifts, memorials and donations are preferred to the Perry County Historical Society.
