Community Counseling Center’s powerful suicide prevention awareness displays return

PERRYVILLE – Community Counseling Center (CCC) is proud to announce the return of its impactful Suicide Prevention Awareness Month displays across five counties in Missouri. These displays will stand strong through October 1st, raising awareness about this critical public health issue.

Each display features a prominent sign with a message of hope: “Your story doesn’t have to end.” It also prominently displays the vital resource, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline number. Additionally, approximately 269 vibrant pinwheels adorn each location, symbolizing memorial ribbons submitted by individuals affected by suicide.

“We have been deeply touched by the overwhelming community response to this project,” shared CCC CEO, Wendy Ice. “Each pinwheel represents a life lost to suicide, a heartbreaking reminder of this crisis’s impact on our communities. Yet, amidst the sadness, we find beauty in the collective effort of our community members, clients, and employees who came together. These displays serve as a tribute to loved ones lost, while sending a powerful message of hope, help, and the importance of every individual.”

The Need for Suicide Prevention

Missouri faces a higher-than-average suicide rate, with 18.7 deaths per 100,000 people compared to the national average of 14.04. Raising awareness about suicide risk and prevention methods is crucial.
