Chester’s Tallen James tied for 1st Place Medalist honors

CHESTER – The YellowJacket Boys Gold Team from Chester traveled to Cobden Monday September 15. It was a dual match with just Chester and Cobden competing. Chester was the winner by eight strokes and Chester’s Tallen James tied for 1st Place with Cobden’s Matthew Howell. Howell is a senior and James is a junior. Both were seeded for their respective teams. There were a total of 17 golfers in the dual event, 9 for Chester and 8 for Cobden.

The YellowJackets are an IHSA Class 1A team. They recorded a total of 179 strokes as a team. Chester’s Tallen James, a junior, tied for 1st Place and Medalist with his score of 39 strokes. The YellowJackets also had finishers in 3rd, 4th Tie, 4th Tie, 9th, 11th Tie, 11th Tie, 11th Tie, and 16th.

Cobden results
Cobden Appleknockers are an IHSA Class 1A team. They recorded a total of 187 strokes as a team. Cobden’s Matthew Howell, a senior, tied with Chester’s Tallen James for 1st Place with his score of 39 strokes. The Appleknockers also had golfers finish in 6th Tied, 6th Tied, 8th, 10th, 14th, 15th, and 17th.

Coach Andrew’s comments
YellowJacket Head Coach Clayton Andrews said, “The boys battled a hot day at the always tough Union County Country Club. I was pleased with the play of Alden Davitz and Logan Springston who both finished tied for 4th Place as individuals.”
The YellowJackets will hosts their final home match of the season Monday September 22 when the Trico Pioneers and the Egyptian High School Pharaohs in Tamms, Illinois come to town. The event takes place at the Chester Country Club with tee-off at 4:00 p.m. Chester does not have any senior golfers this year so there will not be a senior Day Ceremony.

Logan Springston., a sophomore YellowJacket golfer, tied for 4th Place Monday September 15 at the dual match at Cobden.
