JEFFERSON CITY – The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has announced the 2025 edition of the Suicide Prevention & 988 Guide for Missouri Schools.

The 2025 edition of the Suicide Prevention and 988 Guide for Missouri Schools is now available. This resource from the Missouri Suicide Prevention Network is designed to support schools’ youth suicide prevention, intervention, crisis response, and postvention efforts.
This updated edition includes:
- Strategies and resources available to help strengthen school or district-wide suicide prevention efforts and promote safe, supportive environments for students
- Information on how schools can use 988, mobile crisis response, and behavioral health crisis center services
- Updated, evidence-based suicide prevention programming
- New resources for parents and guardians explaining 988 and available supports
- Immediate steps schools can take in the aftermath of a suicide death
Did you know? 988 allows videophone users to connect directly with crisis specialists who are fluent in American Sign Language instead of needing to use a relay service. Also, 988 text and chat contacts in Missouri are automatically routed to crisis specialists trained in working with people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
