DUQUOIN, Ill.-Kody Swanson is the most prolific pilot in the 54-year history of USAC’s Silver Crown Series. His fourth Bettenhausen 100 win at Springfield August 16 was a record forty-ninth in the big cars, and Swanson has a record 8 national championships in his pocket. Saturday afternoon, August 30 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds, Swanson goes for win number 50 and his third Ted Horn 100.
Kody’s win at Springfield was not only his fourth, but the third different car owner that he took to victory lane. Kody won the Ted Horn as a rookie driving for 6R Racing in 2010, and again for Tony Depalma in 2017. Should Swanson win on Saturday, it would also be for his third different car owner, this time for John Haggenbottom.
Swanson has four wins in 2025 but is out of contention for a ninth title. Kody won the pole at Springfield and on one of the hottest, most brutal days in Illinois State Fair history led twice including the last 42 miles to pull into victory lane, absolutely exhausted.
Success at DuQuoin for Swanson has been less than at Springfield or the defunct Indy Mile. While Kody has led 6 times for 212 miles, has 8 top ten finishes and has only dropped out of the Horn 100 twice. His win at Springfield was the first series win for owner John Haggenbottom.
Based on the 38 cars (40 pre-entered) on the grounds at Springfield, Swanson is likely to face over 30 competitors in Saturday’s Ted Horn 100 at DuQuoin.
It’s all part of a huge weekend of racing in Southern Illinois that opens on Saturday afternoon, August 30 for the Ted Horn 100 for the USAC Silver Crown Series. Then, Sunday night, August 31, the ARCA Menards Series returns for the Southern Illinois 100 for an evening under the lights. The DIRTcar Modifieds will race both days with prelims Saturday and the feature Sunday night.
