District 32 Board approves tax rate reduction for 2025-26

PERRYVILLE – The Perry County District 32 Board of Education voted to approve a property tax rate reduction during its annual tax rate hearing on Wednesday, Aug. 13.

The 2025-26 combined tax rate has been set at $3.2764 per $100 assessed valuation, which is a reduction of $0.1246 cents from the previous $3.4010 per $100 of assessed valuation.

The tax rate recommendation is based on a formula that considers the assessed value of local real estate and property as well as the local tax ceiling determined by the Missouri State Auditor. Because 2025 was a reassessment year and District 32 experienced an increase in real estate and property values, a Missouri law called the Hancock Amendment dictates the District must reduce the tax rate.

The assessed valuation of real estate in the district increased to $317,062,380 for 2025-26, from $283,367,354 for 2024-25, a difference of $33.7 million. The assessed valuation of personal property in the district increased to $136,864,928 from $125,027,606, which is $11.84 million more. The adjusted assessed valuation on which the district will receive tax revenue is $453,315,244.

For comparison, Perry County’s adjusted tax rate of $3.2764 is lower than the 2025 rates for districts in Ste. Genevieve ($3.40440), Farmington ($3.65), Jackson ($3.80320), and Cape Girardeau ($4.1567). Woodland R-IV has a lower adjusted tax rate of $2.75, Leopold R-III’s rate is $2.93070, and Meadow Heights is at $3.10.
