Leon B Schumer

A funeral will be held Saturday, August 30, 2025 for 97-year-old Leon B. Schumer of Perryville, Mo. who passed away peacefully Thursday, August 21, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 10, 1928 in Schumer Springs, Mo. to Frank and Mary (Leible) Schumer who both preceded him in death.

He married Marveline A. (Schloss) Schumer March 31, 1951. She preceded him in death on March 21, 2013.

 

Leon then married Ethel M. (Hudson) Renaud on September 5, 2015. She survives.

Survivors include his second wife: Ethel (Renaud) Schumer of Perryville, Mo.; four daughters: Bonnie (Jim) Guyot of Perryville, Mo,, Gail (Eric) Hankins of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kim (the late Terry) Finger of Perryville, MO, Jan (Bob) Grogg of St. Mary, MO; two sons, Rocky (Laura) Schumer of Perryville, Mo., and Kip (Alisa) Schumer of Perryville, Mo.; three sisters: Dorothy Barry of Perryville, Mo., Rose Hotop of Perryville, Mo., and Anna Schnurbusch of Perryville; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; six stepchildren: Bill (Carol) Renaud, Don (Kathy) Renaud, Butch (Lynn) Renaud, Nancy (Vince) LoRusso, Janet (Jeff) Miller, and Joan (Steve) Smith; and two daughters-in-law, Margaret Renaud and Sheree Cowles.

He was also preceded in death by a sister: Leola (Nester) Lappe; a brother: Norbert Schumer; six half-sisters: Isabella Renaud, Dena Berhle, Ida Biehle, Clara Grus, Loretta Schumer, and Bertha Lappe; four half-brothers: Henry Schumer, Edward Schumer, Edgar Sauer, and Robert Sauer; and three step-children, Bobby Renaud, Tom Renaud, and John Renaud.

 

Leon served in the United States Navy and was stationed in Guam from 1946-1947.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville where he served as an usher.

 

Leon was also a member of the Holy Name Society, American Legion Post No. 133, and the Knights of Columbus No. 1263.

Leon grew up on the farm, enjoyed all of nature, and was a country boy at heart. He was co-founder of Schumer Bros Plumbing and Heating. His hobbies included fishing, playing cards, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren,

Visitation will be 4:30 – 8 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2025 and 9-9:50 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2025 at St. Vincent Catholic Church in Perryville.

 

A funeral mass for 97-year-old Leon B. Schumer will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville with the Reverend Joe Geders, CM officiating and Deacon Tom Schumer assisting.

 

Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Perryville.
