PERRYVILLE – A measure passed by the Missouri legislature and now signed into law, requires Air B and Bs to collect the county’s tourism tax.
The topic came up during a recent county commission meeting.
According to the minutes of the meeting held June 17th Perry County Heritage Tourism Director Trish Erzfeld reported on House Bill 199 at that meeting.
Erzfeld and the commission discussed the best way to identify what properties are being utilized as Air B and Bs, and the commission discussed implementing a county-wide ordinance to ensure compliance.
Erzfeld said there are 143 Air B and Bs within a 30-mile radius of the Catalyst Center.
Perryville Mayor Larry Riney said the City of Perryville has been in contact with a policy associate at Air B and B who could be collecting the tax, then sending the proceeds to the appropriate organization.
The Commission suggested inquiring with the county’s legal counsel on the best course of action.
In other heritage tourism business, Erzfeld requested permission for the installation of karst information signs. One will be on city property at the Lindbergh historical marker and the other two are for county property. One at Legion Lake and one for the courthouse lawn. These three will join seven others already installed in the Perryville City Park and other areas around the city creating a Karst Above Ground Trail.
Commissioner Sauer motioned to approve the installation of the signs on the county courthouse property as well as Legion Lake, noting that the location of both may be temporary as projects in both places may require the signs to be relocated. Commissioner Hoehn seconded the motion, and the motion passed.
