A private inurnment will be held for 87-year-old Leroy E. Wachtel of Red Bud, Illinois, who passed away at 5:10 pm, Thursday, August 14, 2025, at Randolph County Care Center, Sparta, Illinois.
He was born October 11, 1937 in Hecker, Illinois to Peter E. and Rosemond “Rose” (nee Ganley) Wachtel who both preceded him in death.
Leroy married Jacqueline “Jackie” L. Braun on July 18, 1959, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church in Hecker, Illinois; she survives.
He is also survived by two children: Cinda Liefer of Red Bud and Jeff Wachtel (Amy Frazer) Steeleville, Ill.; two grandchildren: Timothy (Randa) Liefer and Addison Wachtel (Kathryn Dickneite); two great grandchildren: Marley Rowdy and Kobe Wachtel; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was also preceded in death by: four sisters: Edna (Elmer) Haudrich, Mildred (Tom) Eagles, Irma (Richard) Newton, and Alsace (George) Muskopf.
Leroy had worked as a welder and retired from Nooter in St. Louis, Mo.
Leroy enjoyed throwing horseshoes and also loved riding his motorcycle. After retiring, he kept himself busy working on second-hand bicycles. He made a lot of children happy with those bikes that he put a lot of time and love into restoring.
It was Leroy’s wish to be cremated, and a private internment will take place at St. Marcus Cemetery in Red Bud, Illinois.
