A celebration of life will be held at a future date for 81-year-old Charles E. Raiteri of Ste. Genevieve, Mo., originally of Memphis, Tenn., who passed away July 6, 2025.
He was born June 8, 1944 to Charles T. and Stella L. Raiteri, who both preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife: Janice Nabors Raiteri, three step-children: Walter Nabors (Tara), Elaine Nabors, and Nicole Bramlett, and four grandchildren, Taylor, Amberly, and Shylah Nabors, and Devlin Bramlett, as well as his siblings, Mark Raiteri, Ann Kridler, Betty Robb, Robert Raiteri, and Pamela Knowles Raiteri.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles T. and Stella L. Raiteri.
Charles dedicated his life to storytelling—first as a broadcast journalist and
documentary filmmaker for WHBQ-TV in Memphis.
One of these documentaries is in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution.
He spent 15 years in the newsroom before turning his attention to teaching at the University of Mississippi and Southern New Hampshire University. He authored Writing for Broadcast News, a respected textbook still used in classrooms today. In addition, his screenplays earned recognition in national competitions and a write-up in The Hollywood Reporter.
The family will have a Celebration of life at a later date.
