PERRYVILLE — The Perryville Fire Department was called out at 11:30 p.m. Friday by a report of a commercial structure fire in the 100 block of N. Jackson Street, the location of the 1930 Texas Smokehouse.
The first units to arrive on the scene reported finding heavy fire and a propane cylinder venting.
The firefighters began putting water on the blaze, while occupants of second floor lofts were evacuated.
Firefighters were able to enter the building and discovered the fire had not penetrated into the first floor of the building. Upon investigating further they discovered the fire had been confined to the area where the smoker was located along with a roof extension. Due to the instability of the roof firefighters used the department’s ladder truck along with a ladder truck that was sent to the scene from Ste. Genevieve.
Citizens Electric was called to the scene to disconnect electrical service.
Assistant Fire Chief Garrett Schott said the fire started in the area of the smoker and caused smoke and water damage to the rest of the structure.
One firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion but was released and returned to the scene.
The fire department remained on the scene until 3:10 a.m. Saturday.

“!!!!!1930 Texas Smokehouse Update!!!!!
We’re incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support over the past 24 hours. After last night’s fire, we’ve been working hard to get back on our feet—and thanks to the strength of our team, our community, and the grace of God, we’re ready to take the first step forward.
If you haven’t had a chance to come out and experience 1930 yet, now’s the time. Come enjoy the atmosphere, the people, and help us breathe new life into this place as we begin the process of rebuilding.
During this time, we’re leaning heavily on the support of a community that has already made us feel so successful and loved. Your encouragement keeps us going—and we hope to see many familiar and new faces over the next few days.
Thank you again, Perryville, Perry County, and all our surrounding neighbors. We’re here, we’re grateful, and we’re not going anywhere.
With love and appreciation,
The 1930 Texas Smokehouse Family”
