A funeral will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2025 for 76-year-old James “Jim” J. Hotop of Biehle, Missouri, who peacefully passed away Monday, June 2, 2025 surrounded by his loving family, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, MO.
He was born February 23, 1949 to Julius E. and Violet M. (Snyder) Hotop, who both preceded him in death.
He and Dorothy Jean Geile were married April 8, 1978 at St. Maurus Catholic Church in Biehle, MO.
Survivors include daughter, Vickie (Dean) Menard of St. Mary; two sons, Keith Gross of Perryville, Derek (Angie) Gross of Perryville, MO; son-in-law, Larry Ernst of Biehle; brother, Tom (Sharon) Hotop of Perryville; three sisters, Katy (Richard) Ruesler of Sedgewickville, Tess Miller of Altenburg, Joan Hotop of Perryville; sister-in-law, Bonnie Ehlers of Perryville; many nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a daughter: Jeannie Ernst; two grandchildren: Lindsay Finley, and Trevor Gross; a brother: Bernard Hotop; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Pat (John) Meyer and Agnes (Richard) Farrar.
Jim was the owner and operator of the Biehle Tavern.
He worked 32 years as a lead-man on the dock for Gilster Mary Lee Cereal Plant in Perryville.
He enjoyed cooking kettle beef for many events and loved farming and raising goats.
Jim was a dedicated blood donor for the American Red Cross, donating over 26 gallons of blood.
He was a member of St. Maurus Catholic Church and a former member of the Jaycees.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2025 at Ford & Young Funeral Home in Perryville and 8-9:20 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at the funeral home. The Rosary will be recited at 8:30 am.
A funeral mass for 76-year-old James “Jim” J. Hotop of Biehle will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at St. Maurus Catholic Church in Biehle, MO with Rev. Michael Benz officiating.
Burial will be at St. Maurus Catholic Cemetery in Biehle.
