A funeral will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 for 95-year-old Dorothy M. Heizer of Red Bud, Illinois, who passed away at 9:33 am, Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the Freeburg Care Center, Freeburg, Illinois.
She was born September 22, 1929 in Red Bud, Illinois to Edward J. and Elizabeth H. (nee Mennerich) Waldron.
Dorothy married Richard R. Heizer September 4, 1948, in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois; he preceded her in death on April 19, 2004.
She is survived by a son: Garry (Rosalie) Heizer of Red Bud, Ill.; three granddaughters: Stephanie (Patrick) Magajna Hayden, Idaho, Kathryn Heizer Bentonville, Ark., Teresa (Nils) Sandell of Winchester, Mass.; a great grandson: Miles Becker of Bentonville, Ark.; a sister-in-law: Marie Heizer of Prairie du Rocher, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was also preceded in death by: two brothers and their spouses: Edward F. (Mary) Waldron and Harold (Jean) Waldron, five brothers-in-law and their spouses: Louis (Lorraine) Heizer, Charles Heizer, Leo (Rosalie) Heizer, Arnold (Helen) Heizer, and Donald Heizer and three sisters-in-law and their spouses: Emily (Leo) Hayden and (Wendell) Fausz, Margaret (Charles) Fadler, and Patricia (Cletus) Whelan.
Dorothy was baptized, confirmed, and a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Bud.
She was a 1947 Red Bud High School graduate and a homemaker her entire life.
Her favorite activities with Richard were traveling and dancing. They were fortunate to visit all fifty states, Mexico, Canada, England, and the Caribbean. They made many long-time friends at weekend dances throughout the metro area, and even took vacations with them.
She enjoyed needlework, tending a rose garden that Richard built for her, and derived much pleasure from her pet cats.
Dorothy was unassuming, had a gentle disposition, and loved reading, crossword puzzles, and quiet times. Dorothy spent her last ten years enjoying excellent care at Red Bud Garden Place.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2024 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Red Bud, Illinois
A funeral for 95-year-old Dorothy M. Heizer of Red Bud, Illinois, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2025 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Bud, Illinois.
Burial will be in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Red Bud, Illinois.
Memorials may be made in remembrance of Dorothy to St. John’s Education Fund or Sonshine Ministry at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Red Bud.
