STE. GENEVIEVE – The Sons of the American Revolution in conjunction with the Foundation for Restoration of Ste. Genevieve, French Colonial America, and the Ste. Genevieve Milice will conduct a Remembrance Day ceremony on Sunday, May 25th at 1:00 p.m. in Memorial Cemetery.

There, they will honor Joseph Vital St. Gemme dit Bauvais, Lardner Clark, John Dodge, Jean Baptiste Janis and Jean Baptiste Bequette all of whom who aided the Revolution and are buried in the cemetery. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Orris Theatre at 1 p.m.
Following at 2 p.m. in the Orris, the Commemoration Committee for the Battle of Fort San Carlos and the Daughters of the American Revolution will host a ceremony marking the 245th anniversary of the battle on May 26, 1780. Sixty Ste. Genevieve militiamen and seven local soldiers participated in the successful defense of St. Louis. Winning this battle prevented the British from taking control of the Mississippi River above the Ohio.
