SGCMH Women’s Health & Childbirth Center to offer events in honor of Women’s Health Month!

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. – Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital is hosting two free events in May for Women’s Health Month to highlight its obstetrical services. The events include an open house of the childbirth center and, a lunch and learn on before and after pregnancy.

The open house of the Women’s Health and Childbirth Center will be held on May 13, at 12:30 pm, this will be a fun way to highlight the exceptional obstetrical services offered.

“We’re going to open up our unit for tours and give people a chance to meet and chat with our Women’s Wellness staff,” said Bernadette Hill, director of Women’s Health Services. “It’s an opportunity for expectant parents, and those thinking of starting a family, to get a firsthand look at our Childbirth Center, and the services they will be using during labor and delivery. They can ask questions and gain a better understanding of the center’s approach to childbirth.”

Refreshments will be provided, and participants can enter their name in a drawing for a free Amazon gift card. Register online at https://form.jotform.com/251114037352142.

A “Bellies and Babies” Lunch and Learn will be held on May 21 at noon in the education conference room and is open to any woman expecting a baby or considering having a baby. Topics to be presented include pregnancy, breastfeeding and baby care, and there will be several fun activities as well and a chance to win an Amazon gift card.

An RSVP is required for the lunch and learn. To register call 573-883-7706 and leave your name, phone number and due date, if you’re expecting. For online registration visit https://form.jotform.com/241275313452046.

Hill said the Women’s Health and Childbirth Center prioritizes educating new mothers to enhance their experience and confidence during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum care. This education often covers topics like birth plans, prenatal care, labor and delivery stages, infant care, and breastfeeding.

“I’m really proud of the team of nurses that we have,” said Hill. “They are dedicated to teaching our patients. Often teaching doesn’t come as opening a book, but rather at the bedside when the mom asks questions about labor or if she’s having trouble nursing, our nurses will guide her. Sometimes we don’t even think twice about it, but we’re teaching moms throughout their entire stay and offer a supportive environment for them to ask as many questions as they want.”

During the open house and luncheon, Hill wants to emphasize that SGCMH is a unique hospital.

“We are a critical access hospital, and while we might be small in size, we are huge in what we can offer,” said Hill. Because we are a smaller facility we tend to have a lower number of deliveries, but when you think about it, you are going to get one-on-one care and for the duration of your stay. You are not a number or a tally on the wall. You are a human being who has just delivered a very precious gift, and we recognize that and we treat that as the very special thing it is.”
