Catherine L. Brenneman, of Webster Groves, Missouri, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born in St. Louis in 1934 to the late Carl and Matilda Brenneman, Catherine grew up in south St. Louis and remained deeply rooted in the city she loved. A proud graduate of St. Francis de Sales Elementary School and St. Elizabeth’s Academy, she went on to earn two bachelor’s degrees from St. Louis University—an accomplishment that reflected her deep intellectual curiosity and commitment to learning.
Catherine built a long and respected career as a chemist and medical technician. She was known for her precision, dedication, and quiet strength. But perhaps more than her professional accomplishments, Catherine will be remembered for her faith, her music, and her extraordinary generosity.
A gifted pianist and organist, Catherine served as an organist at the historic Old Cathedral for more than 30 years, providing sacred music that lifted hearts and honored her deep devotion to the Catholic Church. Her faith was the guiding force of her life, and she lived it with humility, grace, and steadfast commitment.
Catherine was a devoted daughter, sister, cousin, and aunt whose generosity knew no bounds. She never married or had children of her own, but she poured love into her family and all those fortunate enough to know her.
She is survived by her beloved sister, Carol Gannon, her cousin, Tom Schaeffer, nephews Paul and David Gannon, her niece Kathleen Carter, and their extended families.
A visitation will be held at Kutis Funeral Home (10151 Gravois, Affton, MO 63123) on Tuesday, April 22, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Webster Groves (7622 Sutherland, Ave., Webster Groves, MO 63119).
