STE. GENEVIEVE – The local Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War held an honor guard in Memorial Cemetery on April 7th to honor the memory of the Camp’s namesake, Lt. Col. J. Felix St. James.

St. James was mortally wounded on April 6th at the Battle of Shiloh, Tenn.
He died two days later, and his remains were brought back and buried in Memorial Cemetery.

Ste. Genevieve’s Grand Army of the Republic Post 326 established this tradition in April 1891.
