A private service will be held for 62-year-old Jeffrey S. Powell, of Freeburg, Illinois, who passed away at 4:44 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2025, at Saint Louis University Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri.
He was born to Thomas and Gloria Marie (nee Valenzuela) Powell, Sr., on November 30, 1962, in Lynwood, California. His father preceded him in death. His mother survives in Belleville, Illinois.
Jeff married Jane Prigge on December 9, 1983, at St. John Lutheran Church, Red Bud, Illinois; she survives in Freeburg, Illinois.
He is also survived by six siblings: Debra (John) Runge of Fairview Heights, IL Thomas (Kim) Powell, Jr. of Belleville, Il, Suzzette Dodson of Fairview Heights, IL, Jeanette “Crissy” (Christopher) Kulat of Kennesaw, GA, David Powell (Marjorie Moore) of Belleville, IL and Blaine (David) Wang Chicago, IL
His Mother-in-law: Joan Prigge of Red Bud, Il.,Siblings-in-law: Kevin Tribout of Gibsonton, FL, Jean (Ray) Niemeyer of Baldwin, IL, Jay Prigge of Red Bud, IL, Joy Prigge oF Belleville, IL
Joanna (Randy “Slim”) Ellner ofPrairie du Rocher, IL; his dogs: José and Cebolla. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters: Kathryn Morales and Rachel Powell-Tribout, and his father-in-law – C. John Prigge.
Jeff graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from Washington University in 1993 and had been working for LHC Group in Granite City, Illinois.
Jeff was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, Freeburg, Illinois.
Jeff was a very talented artist who specialized in making turquoise jewelry. He often traveled out west, especially to Albuquerque, New Mexico. He loved spending time outdoors hunting, camping, and looking for morel mushrooms. He enjoyed cooking, especially Mexican dishes. He also enjoyed antique cars and restored his family’s 1950 coupe.
It was Jeff’s wishes to be cremated.
