Mississippi River will rise above flood stage by Tuesday

ST. LOUIS — The Mississippi River is on the rise.

The river is expected to rise to 31.2 feet on the Chester gage by Tuesday, 4.2 feet above flood stage.

At that stage unleveed islands near Chester and Menard Prison farm floods.

Yesterday morning the river was at 11.04 feet.

If the river rises to 31.5 feet Route E in Perry County will be closed between PCR 322 and PCR 354 (the Levee Road) at the Bois Brule Creek.

If it rises to 35.0 the flood gates close on Little Rock Landing Road in Ste. Genevieve.

If the river rises to 44.0 feet Highway 51 will close and the Chester Bridge will be closed off as well.
