Enjoy spring at these St. Louis-area Missouri state parks and historic sites

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – Got a case of spring fever? We have the cure! Visit a Missouri state park or historic site in the St. Louis area for fun-filled activities:

  • Thursdays, March 27, April 10 and April 24 at 10 a.m. – Toddler Thursday at Mastodon State Historic Site.
    Join the team at Mastodon State Historic Site for Toddler Thursday.Learn, create and play with a free program that includes activities and a craft. The event takes place at the museum auditorium at 1050 Charles J. Becker Drive in Imperial. Program topics:
    • March 27 – The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
    • April 10 – Fossils.
    • April 24 – Hiking and Camping. Part of this program will take place outdoors. Participants should dress for the weather.
  • Saturday, March 29, at 2 p.m. – Interp Chat: Prescribed Fire at Mastodon State Historic Site.
    Park interpreters have a lot of knowledge to share. Join them in the auditorium at 1050 Charles J. Becker Drive in Imperial to learn about some of their favorite topics. Each chat includes a brief introductory-level presentation, including time for questions. For this chat,participants will listen to some experiences on the fire line and learn how and why the park team conducts prescribed burns.
  • Sunday, April 13, at 2 p.m. – Interp Chat: Global Archaeology at Mastodon State Historic Site.
    Learn about some of the lesser-known, but equally important,archaeological sites around the world. Join a park interpreter at the auditorium at 1050 Charles J. Becker Drive in Imperial for a brief introductory-level presentation, following with time for questions.
  • Saturday, April 19, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Sunday, April 20, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. – Spring Tram Tours at Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park.
    Join us in celebrating spring by touring the park on a tram ride. An interpretive guide with a PA system will give a presentation on the history of Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park and will share information about the local natural and cultural history. Each tour will host approximately 25 people, and registration is required by visiting com, then using the “Choose Date” box to find the listing. Participants should meet at the visitor center at 800 Guy Park Drive in Wildwood.
  • Saturday, April 19, at 10 a.m. – Earth Day Celebration and Volunteer Day at Washington State Park.
    Celebrate Earth Day at Washington State Park.This free event takes place at 13041 State Highway 104 in De Soto and will feature a series of environmental activities ranging from volunteer work to an educational presentation and fun craft. All activities are open to the public, and registration is not required. The day’s events are as follows:
    • 10 a.m. – Meet in the Big River Day-Use Area for a tree planting and trash cleanup volunteer opportunity.
    • Noon – Disperse for lunch in the Big River Day-Use Area. Guests should bring their own lunch.
    • 1 p.m. – Meet at the amphitheater for a presentation about critters that get a bad rap but play important roles.
    • 3 p.m. – Meet at the amphitheater to make a stained glass suncatcher out of recycled materials.
  • Monday, April 21, at 1 p.m. – Homeschool Hour: Investigating Rock Art at Mastodon State Historic Site.
    Calling all homeschoolers! This month, homeschoolers ages 10 and up can learn about rock art. The program begins inside the historic site museum at 1050 Charles J. Becker Drive in Imperial. Registration is required and limited to 35 students. To register,visit com or call 636-464-2976. Adults must remain with their children during the program.
  • Saturday, April 26, at 9 a.m. – WOW National Outdoor Recreation and Conservation School in St. Louis at Forest Park Hatchery.
    Missouri State Parks and Wonders of Wildlife are partnering with a team of agencies to present the WOW National Outdoor Recreation and Conservation School in St. Louis. This family event offers recreational activities for beginners to try out with professionals. Come enjoy a St. Louis spring day fishing, kayaking, birding and more. You might just find an activity that becomes your new favorite hobby! All activities take place at Forest Park in St. Louis.

    Participants should dress for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes and bring anything needed for a day spent outside, such as water, insect repellent and sunscreen. All program equipment will be provided. Participation is open to everyone ages 5 and up, but registration is required by April 18. There is a $10 plus tax fee per person that includes a morning snack, boxed lunch and t-shirt. Register by visiting com/wondersofwildlife/events/594406.
