Woman arrested in connection with infant’s death

CAPE GIRARDEAU – The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control announces the arrest of a 21-year-old Cape Girardeau, Mo. woman in connection with the death of a one-year old child.

Alyssa N. Wehmeyer,  was formally charged March 4, 2025, with one count of Abuse Or Neglect Of A Child – Resulting In Death. This charge is the result of an investigation conducted by the Troop E Criminal Investigations Unit of the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control.

On March 3, 2025, the Cape Girardeau Police Department requested the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control investigate a suspicious death of a one-year-old child. During the investigation, it was determined the child suffered from severe malnutrition and neglect, resulting in the child’s death. On March 3, 2025, Wehmeyer was taken into custody by members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and transported to the Scott County Jail.

On March 4, 2025, after reviewing the Patrol’s investigation, the Cape Girardeau Prosecuting Attorney’s office formally charged Wehmeyer with one count of Abuse Or Neglect Of A Child – Resulting In Death. Wehmeyer is currently being held on a $100,000.00 cash bond.

The above charge is a mere accusation and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of this charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it is to determine guilt or innocence.
