JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Representative Phil Amato has issued the following statement regarding HB 807, also known as the “Save MO Babies Act,” which aims to reform and improve Missouri’s adoption processes and is undergoing significant refinement to ensure the bills’ effectiveness.
“I am confident that when this bill is completed, it will be one of the most comprehensive pieces of adoption reform legislation Missouri has even seen,” stated Amato, R-Arnold. “We are working with Jay Harms, the lead writer of this bill, along with other expert adoption attorneys, to make the adoption process easier and less costly, while refusing to compromise on the safety of Missouri children. Our hope is that HB 807 will become a best practice and emulated by other states.”
Rep. Amato continued, “This amendment addresses the legislation’s earlier controversy and helps ensure the adoption database serves its intended purpose of connecting mothers who have voluntarily chosen adoption for their children with qualified adoptive families while respecting privacy concerns. The goal of this bill is simple: to protect life, provide hope, and make adoption a seamless and supportive process for all involved making adoption easier and less costly. We are building a model I hope will inspire other states to follow.”
