Rep. David Friess comments on House rules

RED BUD – The Illinois House of Representatives last week adopted new House Rules for the 104th General Assembly. State Representative David Friess (R-Red Bud), along with all other House Republicans, voted no to HR 15 believing the rules do not reflect transparency or fair process for legislation that Representatives introduce.

Friess released a statement this week on the vote, saying:  “Last week, Democrats passed a set of House Rules straight from the Mike Madigan playbook. House Republicans formed a House Rules Working Group to review and recommend changes for the 104th GA. We advised the Democrats of our working group and requested a meeting to discuss our recommended rule changes; however, despite all the talk of bipartisanship, our request was ignored. We will continue to fight for fairness in the chamber and for the millions of Illinoisans we represent.”

During debate on the rules, Friess told the bills sponsor that it would have been nice if House Republican’s had been asked their input on the measure.   He went on to talk about one of the numerous House Resolutions the Republican side of the aisle filed concerning the 2025-26 House Rules.
