JEFFERSON CITY – Missouri House Speaker Jonathan (Jon) Patterson delivered a welcome address to the House of Representatives during the first regular session of the 103rd General Assembly at the Missouri State Capitol.
Speaker Patterson’s speech focused on the top priorities of the House of Representatives Republican Conference:
- Providing legislative clarity to Amendment 3, and protecting the health and safety of Missouri women and their babies;
- Supporting Missouri children in foster careto ensure they have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive;
- Investing in the mental health of our youthin an effort to shape a brighter future for young Missourians;
- Improving public safety, by focusing on better recruiting and retaining law enforcement officers; and
- Increasing access to accessible and affordable childcare and early childhoodlearning to lay a strong foundation for generations to come.
“As Speaker, I ask you to join me in committing to working together to make life safer, better and more affordable for Missouri families,” Speaker Patterson, R-Lee’s Summit, said. “Let’s get to work for Missouri families.”
Speaker Patterson is the first Speaker from Jackson County in more than 160 years, the first medical doctor to serve as Speaker in 140 years, and the first Asian American Speaker in Missouri history.
During his speech, Speaker Patterson also recognized his parents, Joe and Elaine Patterson of Blue Springs, for their success in choosing Missouri to live out their American Dream. Joe and Elaine worked hard raising six children and were able to realize their dream of sending all six children to world-class higher education institutions right here in Missouri.
Other special guests included Speaker Patterson’s wife Jennifer and their two kids Leah and Andrew, as well as the Speaker’s five siblings Greg, Lori, Lindsey, Jenny, Jeff, and each of their spouses.
Representative Jon Patterson, a Republican, represents District 30, which includes parts of Lee’s Summit. He was elected to his first two-year term in November of 2018. Rep.
