City of Perryville Public Works issues storm debris cleanup update

Perryville City Hall

PERRYVILLE – Our Public Works team is here to assist residents with storm-related limb cleanup, but we will need some patience this time. The sheer volume of limbs will overwhelm our resources, and it will take some time to get everything picked up.  That said, we will begin collecting fallen limbs as soon as is practical and possible, given the host of other emergency tasks that require our attention.

How You Can Help:

  1. Place Debris Curbside – Please gather fallen limbs from your yard and place them perpendicular to the curb for pickup, cut/broken end facing the street.  Do not place them in front of your mailbox or where you normally prefer to place your trash can as, unfortunately, they may be there for a while.  Our normal limit is for pickup is 4” in diameter and 8’ in length but, we are going to try to make an exception and take material up to 12” in diameter, but still no more than 12’ long for a limited time.  Unfortunately, our equipment isn’t capable of handling larger debris (but perhaps your contractor can remove that material).  As is always the case, stumps, logs, and root wads are not accepted.  Also know, the city may need to use a combination of chipping and collecting to accomplish this monumental task.  Those decisions will be made as we go.
  2. Use the Debris Drop-Off Site (beginning Monday, January 13) – If you have the ability, desire and equipment to handle the debris yourself, you can take it to our designated drop-off site at the City’s Public Works Office but many of the same guidelines apply as stumps, logs, and root wads are still not accepted. We are going to try to make an exception for material size and take larger limbs, but all users will have to register at the office before dumping and show proof of address and business license (if appropriate).  Loads containing trash, tires, batteries, construction/demolition materials will be considered contaminated and not accepted.

Location:        Perryville Public Works

                        304 S Kingshighway

Hours:            Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Questions:      547-2500

NOTE:           Registration is required at the Public Works Office and all loads will be verified.

Please know that this location is limited in space.  It is highly likely and expected that it will fill up and the city will have to designate alternate locations for future drop-offs.  This will be communicated to the public through social media as it occurs.  This is being done to help control the size of the burn pile and with respect for citizen safety in accessing the site and dropping off material.

We would ask that you be patient as our crews work to address the large volume of debris across the city.  We appreciate your cooperation and understanding during this cleanup effort. It is going to take a little bit, but we will get it done.

Stay safe (and warm), Perryville!

Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief Chapter can help

The Perryville community is fortunate to have the Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief Chapter of the Southern Baptist Church with us for an extended visit. They are here to assist both City and County residents by offering help with clearing downed or damaged trees and limbs.

To request assistance, please visit the basement of First Baptist Church (416 North Main) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please note that work cannot begin until the ice has melted from the trees and conditions are safe.

Signing up does not guarantee service, as properties will be assessed based on need and severity.

Let’s extend a warm welcome to these volunteer heroes and thank them for their generous service and hard work in our community.
