River Region Sports Wrap for Monday, Dec. 9

Dance

Chester – The Chester Dance Team came in 1st in the Jazz category and 1st place in the Open Pom category in its first competition of the season.

 

Girls Basketball

 

STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve High Varsity Girls Basketball played a good game from start to finish and got a win over Sullivan last Friday night  in the De Soto Fountain City Tournament by a score of 44-34.

 

On Saturday the varsity girls fell to Potosi 54-37 to finish second at the Fountain City Classic.

 

The Dragons are now 2-1 to start the season and will play their first home game on Monday vs. Seckman, JV at 6 and varsity at 7:30.

 

PERRYVILLE – St. Vincent host Saxony Lutheran tonight, JV at 6 varsity at 7:30.

 

PERRYVILLE – Perryville plays at Scott City tonight at 6 p.m.

 

CHESTER – Chester High School Lady Jackets  host Sparta Tuesday at 7:30.

 

Boys Basketball

 

CHESTER – The Chester boys played in the Du Quoin Tip-Off Classic.

Trey McCartney (L) made the All-tournament team and Tray Peters won the sportsmanship award at the Du Quoin Tip-Off Classic.

 

The Yellow Jackets play at Carlyle Tuesday at 7:30.

 

STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve beat Sikeston in the semifinals of the Fountain City Classic in De Soto Boys Friday. On Saturday the Dragons played one heck of game against Cape Central, but came up just short by the score of 71-61.

 

Ste. Genevieve plays at Saxony Lutheran Tuesday, JV at 6 p.m., varsity at 7:30 p.m.

 

PERRYVILLE – Valle plays at Perryville Tuesday, JV at 5:30  and varsity at 7 p.m.

 

PERRYVILLE – St. Vincent plays at Oak Ridge at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13.

 

Wrestling

 

STE. GENEVIEVE – Ste. Genevieve High School boys and girls wrestled in the Steve Leslie Invitational Friday and Saturday.

 

The boys team traveled to Pleasant Hill and finished second out of 15 teams. Top five placers were Jacob Schweigert and Drake Meyer first in their weight classes, Owen Drury and Brody Winters second in their weight classes, Madden Wolk third in his weight class, Noah Willett and Jace Amschler fourth in their weight classes, and Karter Worley and Owen Roth came in fifth in their weight classes.

 

The girls wrestling team came in fourth out of 18 teams. Individual placers include Anna Fischer, Aila Wolk, and Hollyn Zangaro came in second in their respective weight classes, Hailey Davis came in third in her weight class and Maggie Price came in fourth in hers.

 

Both the boys and girls teams host Festus Wednesday.

 

The girls district wrestling tournament will be hosted by St. Clair in February. The boys district wrestling tournament will be hosted by Park Hills.
