Perryville police respond to ‘carjacking’

PERRYVILLE – A Perryville police officer was called out October 29 to a McDonald’s Drive location by a report of a possible stolen vehicle.

His investigation indicated the vehicle was taken in what was essentially a carjacking but Missouri does not specifically have a charge for carjacking, hence the official charge is robbery, tampering with a motor vehicle and assault.

A police spokesperson said the suspect was an acquaintance of the victim and the car owner (second victim).

Corp. Jeri Cain said the victim was giving the suspect a ride when they stopped at a gas station. “When the victim returned to the vehicle, the suspect struck the victim and took the second victim’s vehicle.”

The suspect in the incident has  not been named. Police did not say if the suspect has been taken into custody.
