Event will honor last Civil War soldier in Perry County

STE. GENEVIEVE – The Ste. Genevieve Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Camp No. 326 will hold a dedication ceremony to honor Anton Buchheit, the last Civil War soldier in Perry County on Sunday, November 3rd.

 

The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in the cemetery of St. Joseph Church at Apple Creek, Mo., following the Church’s annual fall dinner from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

The buffet style dinner includes pork sausage and sauerkraut, chicken and dumplings with all the trimmings, and homemade pie.

 

The SUVCW Camp will have a Civil War display available for viewing during the dinner hours.

 

The extended Buchheit family, members of St. Joseph Parish, and persons interested in the history of the Civil War in our area are invited to attend.

 

St. Joseph Church is located at 138 St. Joseph Lane in Apple Creek (going south off I-55 exit 123 for 1 mile on Highway B, turning left Highway F. Travel approximately five miles on Highway F to the Church grounds on the left).
