Valle’s 1st Homecoming Queen’s family presents shadowbox to school

Thank you to the family of Merici LaHay Gremminger, Valle Catholic High School’s first Homecoming Queen. Merici was crowned by football captain Thomas Gerard on Saturday, November 11, 1939. During the game against St. Louis University High, Merici addressed the student body saying, “The title “Queen of the Football Team” is indeed unique, and I feel highly honored in bearing this privileged title. I shall endeavor to be true and loyal to all the activities promoted by our dear Valle High.”
Merici’s children, Gale Gremminger ’76 Sneed, Genny Gremminger ’71 Pfaff, Gary Gremminger ’67, and Greg Gremminger ‘65 presented Valle Catholic High School Principal, Mr. Craig Gibbs, with a shadowbox of their mother’s homecoming keepsakes to be displayed in the Trophy Room. Two of Merici’s great-grandaughters, Aubrey and Becka Jokerst, were also present for the photo.
