ESPN Southern Illinois TEAM of the Week for WEEK 1: Chester YellowJackets

CHESTER – The ESPN Southern Illinois TEAM of the Week for WEEK 1 is the Chester YellowJackets.

 

 

The Chester High School YellowJackets were named the ESPN Southern Illinois 103.5 FM “Team of the Week” for Week 1 of the 2024 IHSA Football Season. The Jackets, under the direction of CHS Head Coach, Billy Belton, defeated the DuQuoin Indians, 35-27, to open the 2024 season with a decisive victory to earn the first ESPN Southern Illinois “Team of the Week” honors. For their impressive performance and and “Team of the Week” distinction, the YellowJackets received a plaque and each player was awarded an ESPN T-shirt to commemorate the occasion. The Jackets are now 5-0 going into Week 6 with wins over DuQuoin, 36-27; Pinckneyville, 56-6; Freeburg, 31-14; Sparta, 48-2; and Wesclin, 20-0. CHS hosts Carlyle Friday October 4 in Week 6. Chester High School Head Football Coach, Billy Belton, is being interviewed by ESPN Southern Illinois 103.5 PM commentator, Matt Varney, Thursday October 3 at W.O. Smith Field. The occasion was the presentation of a plaque and T-shirts to the YellowJacket Football Team for being selected as the first ESPN Southern  Illinois “Team of the Week” of the 2024 IHSA football season. The honor was bestowed upon the YellowJackets for defeating the DuQuoin Indians, 35-27, in Week 1.The Jackets are now, 5-0, going into Week 6.Jim Beers Photo
